The irritability of living beings is the reaction of a stimulus (be it external or internal) in which case it modifies the behavior of living beings that are subjected to them.
Irritability in living beings specifically refers to the homeostatic capacity (the ability to maintain a stable internal condition of the organism to favor its adaptability to the environment). This allows their survival.
The response that living beings present is related to the adaptability of said living being to the surrounding environment.
Irritability is, then, a type of adaptive response of all living things from bacteria to humans. However, what varies is the response of said irritability. Irritability is also understood as the ability of a living being to react negatively and react to said stimulus.

There are two types of stimuli; the external and internal. Internal stimuli are those coming from within the body itself. On the other hand, external stimuli are those that come from the environment where said organism is found.
Multicellular organisms
For a living being to be able to carry out a type of reaction such as irritability, there must be two processes: coordination and organic integration. In living beings, those responsible for both processes are the endocrine system and the nervous system.
The endocrine system it works through chemicals called hormones. This system processes stimuli from inside the body (internal stimuli).
The nervous system, receives stimuli from the external environment of the body through the senses.
The vegetables
On the other hand, vegetables have a hormonal coordination and integration system based on phytohormones or plant hormones.
The cells
Unicellular organisms do not show coordination and integration. However, they have irritability as well.
Examples of irritability in living things

- When the human heart flutters after a light walk or exercise.
- When bacteria modify the reaction rate of their cell division
- When vegetables change the direction of their stems based on the search for natural light, shade, water, etc.
