Theepithet It is a rhetorical figure used in literature, especially in poetry, which consists of the introduction of certain adjectives that are unnecessary because they describe something that is basically obvious or inherent to the subject. For example: sweet sugar / warm sun.
The epithet is a resource that can add beauty to the text or emphasize some idea or concept that is trying to highlight. Epithets are commonly used to reinforce the description of a noun, using various adjectives that do not provide new information.
Epithets were widely used in ancient times to accompany the name of divinities, kings or heroes, in order to highlight some quality. Some famous people are better known by their epithets than by their real names. Epithets were also widely used in Renaissance literature.

Types of epithets
Broadly speaking, epithets are classified into two groups:
- Objective epithets: Express objective qualities of the noun, providing a description or definition of the referent.
- Subjective epithets: Express subjective qualities of the noun, based on the moral or aesthetic assessment of the speaker. In turn, they can be appreciative (they value the noun positively) or pejorative (They negatively value the noun).
