Words with a prosodic accent are those that do not have an accent. For example: run, forest, wall.
All words have a stressed syllable, that is, the syllable that is intoned more strongly than the rest of the syllables (which are unstressed syllables). Some stressed syllables are marked with a written accent and others only have a prosodic accent.
- Prosodic accent. It is the accent that is not written and that is the syllable that sounds louder than the rest. For example: lectern (a- tril)
- Written accent or tilde. It is the graphic accent that is written on the stressed vowel. Through this stress, we know where the word has its marked intonation. For example: song (can - tion)
What words have a spelling accent and what words have a prosodic accent?
In the Spanish language there are two types of accent: the prosodic accent and the written accent or accent. Both accents respond to the spelling rules for grave words, acute words, esdrújulas words and sobreesdrújulas words.
Sharp words. The stressed syllable is the last.
- They have a prosodic accent (not written) when they do not end in N, S or vowel. For example: dogtar, reloj, cartel.
- They have a written accent (or tilde) when they end in N, S or vowel. For example: dogtion, toafter, llego.
Serious words. The stressed syllable is the penultimate.
- They carry a prosodic accent (not written) when they end in N, S or vowel. For example: meran, sabes, perro.
- They have a written accent (or accent) when they do not end in N, S or vowel. For example: fosil, procer, sayfycyl.
Words esdrújulas. The tonic syllable is the penultimate.
- They have a prosodic accent (not written) when they are adverbs ending in -mente, responding to the accentuation of the original word. For example: yougalmind, fasuchmind, fugazmind.
- They have a written accent (or accent) in the rest of the cases. For example: pagina, ésuccess, raI ask.
Overdrug words. The stressed syllable is the one before the penultimate.
- They have a prosodic accent (not written) when they are adverbs ending in -mente, responding to the accentuation of the original word. For example: sabiamente, lentamente, sencisimply.
- They have a written accent (or accent) in the rest of the cases. For example: corritwin, muésrear, lanzáncanopies.
