The diphthong It is the combination of two different vowels that occur in a contiguous word and in the same syllable. For example: aceiyou, guardar.

Types of diphthongs

  • Growing diphthongs (or increasing words). They occur when a weak or closed vowel (u, i) is found before the strong or open vowel (a, e, o). For example: comedy (co - me - dia).
