The Z it is the last letter of the alphabet. Although in most Spanish-speaking countries it is pronounced with the same sound as S, in most areas of Spain its sound is different. For example: pedazo, plazto openzor, tozar, ozor not.
The spelling rules for Z
- The Z is used for -anza endings, in nouns derived from verbs such as walk, kill, take, or guess. For example: they killzto, walkza, guesszto.
- It is also used for augmentative endings like -azo and -azon. For example: holderzor, departurezor.
- Some surnames that end in -iz, -ez, -oz. For example: Martinez, Gomez.
- Nouns ending in -azgo, except feature. For example: findszgo patronzgo.
